Day 4 here in ‘the warm heart of Africa’, like every other day, was a joy to behold. The drive through the streets of Blantyre never fails to amaze us - brimming with life, colour and character. The sights, the sounds, the smells - vibrant, volatile and vocal all combine to create an energy that’s hard to describe but impossible to forget.
7The training centres are attached to local schools, so we’re always greeted with a warm, friendly - and rather noisy - welcome from the learners. They’re thrilled to meet us, chat and pose for photos. Truly delightful children.
Our sessions are always designed to be active, interactive and fun - but with a clear focus on learning and developing practical skills. Skills that will lead to meaningful improvements in learning, teaching and assessment.
Our Malawian colleagues are eager to learn, enthusiastic to share their good practice, and open to new ideas. It’s a genuine two-way exchange. As the saying goes “every day is a school day.”
It’s been a whirlwind of a week and now the final day is on the horizon.
Emotions are mixed - it’s a tough (if rewarding) gig and we’re ready for a rest. We’re looking forward to reuniting with family and friends, though perhaps less excited about the weather that awaits us back home.
Still, there’s sadness too. Malawi has a way of getting under your skin. It’s a special place, and somehow, I suspect we’ll all be back again soon.
